For information purposes!

Launching this blog as an add on for my skin care products.

The fda has rules about what information or claims that can be placed on labels of handcrafted items or on websites of skin care products. They are considered drugs or cosmetics. The stuff you buy at the store or  at or on skin care companies have paid to have their products tested and can make those claims.

According to the fda website, a drug is  "articles intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease" and "articles (other than food) intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals" [FD&C Act, sec. 201(g)(1)]

A cosmetic is considered as "articles intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, or sprayed on, introduced into, or otherwise applied to the human body...for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance" [FD&C Act, sec. 201(i)].

I completely understand that consumer safety is behind this and I will respect that by not making claims about anything I sell.

For example:

Labels should not make the claim that soap can cure cancer. Even the claims of moisturizing, deep cleaning, acne treatment are no nos unless the products have been tested. It can state that the soap cleans.

Labels on body butter cannot state that it is anti aging even if it contains ingredients proven to do so.

Unfortunately I do not have the proper funds to have my products tested to back up any claims that I may make about my products or the ingredients in them that would make my products fall under the drug category.

With that being said, I am creating this blog to provide separate information about specific ingredients that I use and any potential benefits for the skin. I will be sure to post information from credible sources and post links if possible. It will be up to the purchaser to research further and make an informed decision.

I am not a licensed doctor nor an expert on skin care. I have a deep personal interest in and care about what goes into skin care products, which is why I decided to make my own. I personally test and try out the products I make before I feel comfortable with selling them.

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking time to read this.

Carol
